“It will also be beneficial for raising young scientists”

Assoc.Prof.Dr. A. Çiğdem Aktuğlu Zeybek made an announcement on behalf of the Team of Nutrition and Metabolism, Department of Paediatrics, Cerrahpaşa School of Medicine, Istanbul University. “The new HPLC equipment will be used for clinical researches carried out for monitoring diagnosis and treatment processes of congenital metabolic disorders and it will also be beneficial for raising young scientists in this field,” she said and continued:

“Congenital metabolic disorders are among serious health problems in our country where such disorders are more frequent than most other countries due to relatively high prevalence of kin marriages although they are normally defined as rare disorders. On the one hand, diagnosis and treatment processes are more problematic than other disorders since they are observed quite rarely. On the other hand, it is a highly unexplored field which needs to be explored in more detail. It is critical to have a robust and efficient laboratory for diagnosis and treatment of patients. Chromatographic methods set the golden standard in effective diagnosis of congenital metabolic disorders since they are reliable, easy-to-implement and open to development of new methods. Our clinic, ‘Nutrition and Metabolism Department’ and ‘Nutrition and Metabolism Laboratory’, is a forerunner of centres dealing with those disorders in our country and is recognized as a centre of reference in national and global scale thanks to its proven track record of success. This donation will help us cover great distance to contribute to scientific research as well as diagnosis, treatment and observation processes of patients.”
