EROL KİRESEPİ JOINS ECOP CONFERENCE

Mr Erol Kiresepi, Chairman of Santa Farma İlaç, Deputy President of KİPLAS and President of IOE, made the opening speech of ‘21st Century Employer: Transitioning to New and Flexible Ways of Doing Business and Work’ which was organised by ECOP on September 4, 2020.



Mr Erol Kiresepi, Chairman of Santa Farma İlaç Sanayii A.Ş., Deputy President of KİPLAS and President of International Organisation of Employers (IOE), took the stage for the opening speech at the Conference entitled “21st Century Employer: Transitioning to New and Flexible Ways of Doing Business and Work” which was organised by the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) on September 4, 2020. During the online meeting held with the participation of Representatives from ITUC and ILO as well as H.E. Rodrigo Duterte, President of the Republic of the Philippines, the attendees focused on social and economic policies which are required for supporting employers in terms of digitalization, agility and resilience in this new epoch in the global arena.


Mr Kiresepi noted that Covid-19 resulted in global economic slowdown and employment crisis while SMEs and developing economies suffered more severely due to the pandemic. He also took note of the critical importance of enabling enterprises to achieve the liquidity and solvency effectively and in a timely manner in order to keep the real economy on track and employers should focus on improving productivity and competition in order to create new employment opportunities.


As the President of IOE which represents 50 million employers in 147 countries, Mr Kiresepi informed that IOE took action to cooperate with its stakeholders in order to boost trust and encourage employers to adapt to this new epoch arising from the effects of Covid-19 pandemic, a number of meetings were organised with the participation of António Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations, with a view to increasing the role of employers’ organisations in determination of the policies to be adopted in this period, and IOE created a special platform to provide information and guidance during Covid-19.


Mr Kiresepi also took attention to the “Centenary Declaration for the Future of Work” which was adopted by ILO last year, underlining that it marks a significant transformation for the business world since it is the first ILO document to take a historic step and refer to productivity and confirm the importance of sustainable enterprises for employment, innovation and decent work while also underlining the requirement to set the convenient atmosphere for entrepreneurship and ensure skills development and lifelong learning for all.


Mr Erol Kiresepi noted that once the pandemic is concluded with the formulation of an effective vaccine, the actions taken in this period will help to create a brighter future for business world and make it easier to provide a better environment for sustainable business enterprises, the governments are expected to create a better foundation and allow the employers’ organisations to assume a more effective role as an important part of solution, and IOE is determined to take resolute actions to increase the impact of business world by making use of the capacity of its members in determination of social policies in post-Covid-19 period.
